METRIC Welcomes New Partner

Grand Rapids, Michigan –  For the last decade Zach Verhulst has led clients and teams through the design and execution of large and complex architectural projects and now will use those experiences as he joins the leadership ranks at the budding start-up, Metric Structures, as Managing Partner.

He will join founder Jacey Ehmann and as part of Metric’s leadership team. Zach will help oversee the business functions and lead the design team as it grows. The multi-disciplinary, mid-sized firm was founded in 2017 and is focused on making impactful contributions to our built environment. They have experience in the commercial and residential markets here in West Michigan including recently opened Hancock. After he learned of their robust human centered approach to design and construction, Metric Structures presented a unique opportunity for Verhulst.

“I love making sure we are making a difference. Metric is very results driven, but unlike anywhere else, their priorities and how they measure success is super inspiring to me. Everything they do is rooted in people; internally it’s expressed in how they collaborate, how they deliver design and construction projects, and how they trust and empower their employees. Externally it’s expressed in their returning clients and their unique project outcomes. They take pride and extreme ownership in their relationships and make sure they take care of everyone involved” said Verhulst.

Zach’s passion and drive to excel inspires everyone around him to rise to the occasion. His passion for architecture is evident in his professional accolades and through his approach to leading people and projects. He was a 2019 GRBJ 40 under 40 award recipient and is a past recipient of the American Institute of Architect’s Young Architect of the Year in West Michigan. Zach is currently on the Board of Directors at Blandford Nature Center and Covenant House Academy and is a member of the Advisory Councils for the Academy of Design and Construction at Innovation Central High School and the Executive Committee at ICCF. Verhulst will continue leading with passion in hopes of having a lasting impact on his new team as well as his community.

“ As Metric has grown and matured, the vision and mission for the future has become clear. We have set our sights on making a big impact on this industry. I knew it was going to be challenging and I knew I couldn’t do it alone. I chose Zach, not just for his expertise, but for his character. The Metric team is so excited to have Zach join our team. He is an amazingly talented architect, but above that, he’s a wonderful human being” says Ehmann.
